Zafer Burnu (Cape Apostolos Andreas)

Zafer Burnu

Cape Apostolos Andreas is also called Zafer Burnu. It is located at the extreme northeastern point of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. It can be found at the endpoint of the Kirpasa of Peninsula. Or it can be said that the village is situated at the fingertip of the Kirpasa of Peninsula. This village is located in the middle of a number of important locations such as the Apostolos Andreas Monastery which is located about 5 km away from the village in the southwest region of Cyprus. Similarly moving to the eastern side of the village at about 68 miles from the village, one can reach the City of Latakiya in Syria.

The Kirpasa of Peninsula is a large coastal area which is located near the famous city of Famagusta in Cyprus. This is a long finger liked peninsula of Cyprus and is famously known due to the location of the region. Kirpasa of Peninsula is also known in Turkish by the name of Karpaz.

Kirpasa of Peninsula is also under the De facto control of northern Cyprus. This city is De facto under the control of northern Cyprus along with the city of Trinity. De facto refers to the facts and practices which are applicable and exist in real life. But these practices are not officially recognized by the law and government of this particular state. This practice refers to the acts which occur in real life. In contrast to the acts which should be done under the law and constitution of the particular country and is known and de jury.

Area of the Zafer Burnu:

This region covers most of the area of northern Cyprus which is about 898 km square. This region makes almost up to 27% of the total area of northern Cyprus. Peninsula is basically the region whose borders are majorly covered by water with the least interaction with land. But this cannot be categorized as an island. Due to the reason that one of the sides of such reason is connected to the mainland. Just like in the case of Kirpasa of Peninsula.

Lourdes of the Churches:

In order to reach there, one has to start from the Apostolos Andreas Monastery is a monastery. Which is located just south of the Apostolos Andreas village and is named after the location. This monastery is allocated to St Andrew and it much religiously important to the Cypriot Orthodox. This church is also named as the “Lourdes of the churches”. It is different from other churches in the sense that it is not served by the group of monks but during the past. The church is served by the changing volunteers of priests and laymen. However, this church was considered a holy place by both the groups of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. This is due to the reason that this place was visited by the individuals of both these sects.

Cape Apostolos Andreas

Moving from the monastery on the rough tracks which is much sandy and muddy and are advised to be traveled on four-wheeled vehicles for the comfortable drive to the location. The total distance from the church to the location is about 7 kilometer. This region is defined by the locals as the anti-climactic northeastern tip of the Kirpasa of Peninsula. One can have a glance at a cave riddle rock which is the Neolithic village in the region and is named as the Kastros. This rock was later converted into a temple to be visited by the individuals and have a look at the artifacts placed here. These artifacts were discovered as the result of a number of excavations done in the region by the local inhabitants.

The Temple

This temple which was present here with all its glory has nothing left here. Due to the number of attacks of the forces from different directions along with the climatic changes occurring in the region. The goddess of the temple was defined in books and by the locals as the most swage of them all. She was explained as the siren-like devourer who lived in the depth of the sea. And moved to the temple in order to help the individuals who reached there for seeking her help in daily problems.

In front of the temple, one can have a look at the abandoned guardhouse. Which was destroyed by the storms of the sea. Not only the guardhouse was destroyed by such storms but remains of a number of ships which were wrenched by these storms of the sea can be seen on the shores. This region is also visited by Kyrenia based scuba operators which visit the location as part of their program being offered to the visitors. This is due to the fact that the sea here is quite deep. And provides the clearest of the sea to the individuals to enjoy the things present beneath the surface such as the fishes, corals and even the beautiful rocks present there.
