The city of eight districts, Kırıkkale, located in the Central Anatolia Region has the potential to be rich in culture and history.

History of Kırıkkale

The first known name is Kırıkkal. This name was recorded in the Ottoman archival documents by combining and shortening Kalatepe and Kırıkköy. As a result of archaeological excavations in the city, M. Ö. Remains of many years have been found and its history dates back to the Neolithic Age.

After the Battle of Malazgirt Square in 1071, Turks and the Oghuz-Turkmen tribes conquered the city. They settled in the 11th century and construction of the city initiated. The city, present in the middle of Anatolia, remained preserve even in times of war and never occupied. Turks have adopted the region in order to graze animals and spend their winters.

Founded in 1925 with the opening of factories, Kırıkkale began to develop with adoption of the Republic.

The land generally consists of plains and plateaus. To the north are Çamlıca, Karakaya and Kırıkkale hills. The settlement is generally around Kırıkkale Plain and Çoruhözü Creek. The most important river of the city is Kızılırmak River. Due to its hydroelectric potential, 8 dams currently run on the river. The city has a strong continental climate. Population of the city is approximately 192,473. Kirikkale University, founded in 1992 provides the highest educational institution in the province.

Economical Conditions

It is based on economy, industry and agriculture. In addition to vegetable and fruit growing, viticulture also contributes to the agricultural economy. The arms and ammunition factories established in the city after the proclamation of the Republic played a major role in the development of the industry.
