Agios Epiktitos is the name of a small village which is also known as Çatalköy in the Turkish language. This village is located in Cyprus. This city is De facto under the control of northern Cyprus. De facto refers to the facts and practices which are applicable and exist in real life. But these practices are not officially recognized by the law and government of this particular state. This practice refers to the acts which occur in real life. In contrast to the acts which should be done under the law and constitution of the particular country and is known and de jury. This region had a population of about 5,110 according to the older census. However, with the passage of time, this population might have increased. Yet this village cannot be classified as a city due to the smaller size and area covered by this village.
Some other important things about the village being the Turkish Cypiotic Duzkaya Sports Complex. Which was established in the year 1958 made especially for the inhabitants as well as the tourists. In order to keep themselves fit even during the vacations. This village also has its own football association named the Cyprus Turkey football association. This city was named after an ascetic monk which fled from Palestine. In order to find living here and spent all his life here till his death. Just like the St Hilarion who fled here. He was given more importance due to the fact that the individual was thought to have been fighting with the demons. To save the individuals of the area. Another saint moved along with them named Saint Ambrose who gave his name to a nearby village.
Çatalköy is a village again found in the mountains but on a rather lower level. This village is also famous for the structure of the village which is loaded with the riddles of these caves found in these mountains. The hermit who gave his name to this particular area also lived in one of these caves. During his time after fleeing from Palestine. Due to the warlike environment there and bad economic stability of the region. The hermit Epiktitos lived in these caves during the twelfth century. Giving these caves with much of the historical and religious importance attracting a number of tourists. Who visit these caves in order to imagine the way of living of this hermit.
Restaurants in Çatalköy:
The most well-known hotel complexes of the area are known as the Dedeman Olive Tree. These provide their services to tourists throughout the year. Providing these tourists with luxurious services but rather cheap services thus providing these individuals with well-valued suites to spend time in. This is also represented by a number of packages companies that direct their clients to these suits providing them with the best possible services of the area. These individuals living in the area can enjoy three different types of suits which are lined by the great pool. These suits are provided to the individuals based on the budget they can offer. Although the service in there three types of suits does not vary much they do differ in their living style such as described.
One of the suits provides their tourists with the 1996 based vintage large hotel rooms which are decorated with the cultural artifacts of that time having the top quality furnishing in the rooms. The second type of these suits is those which provide their tourists with the three-bedroom suits having the capacity of about five individuals to spend their time there. Lastly are the same suits as described but have no catering services with them, reducing the prices further for the individuals who want to spend cheap vacations. These suites share a massive common area for gatherings or for the meetings to be carried out in the areas.
Due to the presence of such an area, management is inclined to shift their focus from families to conferences and business tourism which can pay more for the same service and can avail these common areas for meetings. A large fitness center is planned, and there’s a regular shuttle to Kyrenia.
Among the restaurants, one can find on the east side of the village a restaurant which is named Ani. This restaurant is the best one among the others due to the fact that they provide their customers with the most economical food and having a great quality, this restaurant is known among the islanders for one of the best and most reasonable fish tavernas being served here in Northern Cyprus.
Another specialty about the restaurant is their cold and hot meze which are unexpectedly and wholesomely fresh, serving the fresh fish even in midsummer when no other restaurant serves fishes due to the decline of fishes in sea. This restaurant is quite economical costing about 24 per three people with the individuals who want booze have to pay extra, It is to be preferred to the other, oft-cited fish specialist in the area, Zia’s and the Lemon Tree are some of the other restaurants which serve fish-based dishes.
